Abstract
This research focuses on the Olympic Games and examines their historical development from the first Olympic Games in Athens in 1896 to the twenty-sixth session in Atlanta 1996, specifically regarding the high jump event. The research highlights the lack of comprehensive libraries and resources in Iraq to chronicle the results of the World Championships in high jump. The objectives of the research include documenting and analyzing the results of notable world athletes in the high jump from the first Olympic Games in 1896 to the 1996 Atlanta Games, and examining how their participation contributed to the development of athletic performance and achievements over time. The study is divided into several sections: Part II introduces the historical background and objectives of the research; Part III outlines the methodology, which follows a historical approach and includes a sample of 69 athletes from the period between 1896 and 1996; Part IV presents the analysis and discussion of the results. The research finds that there is a reciprocal relationship between sport and politics throughout history. The final section offers conclusions and recommendations, emphasizing the need to encourage historians, researchers, and athletes to document the history of sports, especially high jump, to preserve its legacy
