Abstract
The importance of this research lies in the role of specialized physical training in enhancing speed indicators, which reveal the rapid capabilities of 400-meter freestyle runners—specifically in terms of positive, regular, and negative acceleration. This study aimed to develop specific tests based on different speed indicators to identify the relationship between these types of speed and certain physical abilities among elite runners. The research addresses whether it is possible to monitor an athlete’s acceleration phases through tracking their speed consistency and using motion analysis to measure speed indexes. This enables coaches to better prepare training programs that enhance speed capacity and endurance. The research objectives were to identify values of positive, regular, and negative speed, the associated distances, and physical abilities of elite 400-meter runners, and to examine the relationships among these variables and performance outcomes. The hypotheses proposed statistically significant relationships between speed indicators and performance, as well as between speed indicators and physical abilities. The study was conducted on elite 400-meter runners in Jordan, from February 4 to February 20, 2010, at the College of Sport Education stadiums in Irbid. Findings indicated that speed endurance plays a critical role in performance, and both speed and force endurance significantly influence achievement in the 400-meter race. However, force endurance was not at the required level for the sample studied. Furthermore, runners showed better performance during the positive and negative acceleration phases compared to the regular speed phase.
