Abstract
This research was conducted descriptively on a sample of young people aged 18-25 years, consisting of 100 students from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Baghdad University. Questionnaires were distributed to assess their level of physical activity and compare it with their rate of energy expenditure, in order to determine whether this energy expenditure corresponds to health-promoting physical activity. The significance of the study lies in the health benefits of physical activity, including its positive effects on various body systems and its role in reducing the risk of coronary heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and other diseases. It aims to monitor and determine the physical activity levels of young people and to develop solutions and future plans to reduce physical inactivity and the rising incidence of serious and chronic diseases within society. Through statistical analysis, the researchers found that the level of physical activity among college students aged 18-25 is generally good compared to their energy expenditure, which contributes positively to their overall health. Most participants engage in high-intensity sports activities, such as football and weight training, as well as moderate-intensity activities like walking and climbing stairs. Based on these findings, the researchers recommend conducting similar studies across different age groups to benefit public health, developing future plans focused on the most important sports and physical activities, and increasing awareness of the significance of physical activity through media outlets like seminars and audio-visual channels. They emphasize the importance of engaging in moderate-intensity physical activity for at least 30 minutes a day to promote public health and mitigate the negative impact of technology and information development, which often reduces individual physical activity. Additionally, the research advocates for greater attention to physical activity for women, particularly in societies where women's participation in sports is less emphasized, affecting their health outcomes.
