Abstract
This research focuses on the impact of modern teaching strategies on improving basic skills in handball, particularly through cooperative learning methods. The study emphasizes the importance of innovative teaching approaches to enhance the learner's abilities, recognizing that traditional teaching methods often fall short, especially with large class sizes and limited time. The research problem arises from the observed decline in skill levels among students and the ineffectiveness of traditional teaching methods. To address this, the researcher aims to explore the effects of cooperative learning on handball skills. The research hypothesizes that significant statistical differences will exist between pre- and post-test results, favoring the experimental group taught through cooperative learning. The study was conducted with first-year students from the Department of Physical Education at the University of Mustansiriya over a period from December 2011 to February 2012, using three different learning styles: cooperative learning, individual learning, and the Prince method. The findings indicated that the cooperative learning strategy significantly improved students' handball skills. Based on the results, the researcher recommends the adoption of modern teaching strategies, particularly cooperative learning, to accommodate larger class sizes and enhance student skill development effectively.
