Abstract

The importance of this research lies in its attempt to explore the relationship between emotional response levels and motivation for athletic achievement among advanced fencers across the three weapons. The research problem emerged from the observation of fluctuations in athletes' performance stability and their ability to consistently deliver peak performance in various bouts. When faced with challenging situations, athletes often exhibit signs of anxiety and psychological pressure, which can either serve as motivation to win or lead to stress, anxiety, and a loss of psychological control—ultimately hindering their technical performance, particularly in high-stakes competitions. Excessive emotional arousal becomes an obstacle to calm thinking and composed behavior, impairing the athlete’s ability to make sound decisions in fast-paced matches. The study aimed to: (1) identify the level of emotional response among advanced fencers, and (2) examine the relationship between emotional response and motivation for athletic achievement. The key finding was a significant correlation between emotional response and motivation for achievement in fencers using all three weapons.
