Abstract
The research aims to define the concept of the professional athlete and to identify the parties involved in a professional sports contract according to Iraqi labor law. It also seeks to determine the legal classification of the professional sports contract under the same law. The researcher employed the descriptive method, and the research sample included 152 legal professionals (judges, public prosecutors, and lawyers), representing 42% of the original population of 350 individuals at the Justice House in Baqubah. For statistical analysis, the researcher used percentages, revealing a high rate of 95% indicating that a professional sports contract is considered an employment contract. Among the most important conclusions was that the professional sports contract is indeed an employment contract, and disputes arising from it can be addressed under the provisions of the labor law. The researcher recommended the adoption of labor law principles when drafting regulations for professional sports contracts.
