Abstract
The research, which is divided into five chapters, aims to explore the relationship between motor response speed and defensive skills in youth basketball players. Chapter one introduces the importance of the study, highlighting the insufficient focus on motor response speed exercises during training. The research objective is to identify the connection between motor response speed and the performance of certain defensive skills, with the hypothesis suggesting a significant correlation between the two. Chapter two discusses the theoretical aspects of motor response speed, its forms, types, and methods of development, as well as key defensive skills in basketball. In chapter three, the descriptive method is employed, with a sample of eight youth players from Al-Sulaykh Sports Club chosen purposefully. Various tests were conducted, including pilot experiments and pre- and post-tests, followed by statistical analysis. Chapter four presents and analyzes the results, confirming the research objective and hypothesis. Finally, chapter five presents the conclusions, which include a significant correlation between motor response speed and both defensive player movement and defensive tracking, while no correlation was found between motor response speed and defensive assistance or coverage.
