Abstract
Choosing the optimal method for learning any skill is essential to achieving the desired learning outcomes. When teaching a motor skill, it is necessary to use modern strategies and methods that contribute to developing skill performance in all sports, especially volleyball. This motivated the researcher to apply these methods to improve certain abilities and to teach the reception skill in volleyball. The objectives of the research were: (1) to identify the effect of the guided discovery and command styles on developing certain abilities and learning the reception skill in volleyball, and (2) to identify the differences between the two styles in their impact on these developments. The hypotheses included: (1) there are statistically significant differences between the pre- and post-tests for both groups in favor of the post-tests in developing some abilities and learning the reception skill; and (2) there are statistically significant differences in the post-tests between the two groups in favor of the first experimental group. The experimental method with the equivalent groups design was used, involving a sample of 30 students, divided equally into two groups of 15 students each. The study concluded that the guided discovery style was more effective than the command style in learning the reception skill in volleyball. The researcher recommended conducting further studies using different teaching styles to improve skill performance in volleyball.
