Abstract

Physical fitness is considered one of the essential pillars for theatrical performance and acting, as it involves a variety of movements and postures that are not natural or familiar in a person's daily life. These movements are used to express specific states or emotions that the actor wants to convey clearly and understandably. This requires performing a range of movements, which can be difficult, simple, or complex. Additionally, acting and theater rely on dialogue and speech, which may last for extended periods. This demands good respiratory capacity so that the actor can speak clearly and express their intended message effortlessly, without strain. Therefore, those involved in acting, whether on stage or in performance scenes, must possess physical fitness that allows them to perform these roles, which require strength, endurance, speed, flexibility, agility, and other fitness elements. Moreover, the individual must have good functional capacity in their internal organs, such as the heart and lungs. Since students in fine arts colleges engage in theatrical work and acting as part of their academic studies, which are evaluated based on their performance, it is essential to conduct a study to assess their physical fitness. The researcher, as a physical fitness instructor in the Faculty of Fine Arts, observed the need to assess the students' physical capacity by studying some fitness indicators through a series of physical and functional tests, which serve as indicators of their overall physical condition. The study selected tests to measure flexibility, endurance (stamina), and the vital capacity of the respiratory system. The results showed a lack of physical fitness among the students, both male and female, due to a lack of participation in physical activities or sports. This negatively affected their performance in practical and applied lessons. The researcher recommended the inclusion of physical fitness as a regular subject in all stages of study at the college to improve the students' physical fitness levels and to monitor their progress throughout their academic years.
