Abstract

The study aimed to identify the effect of applying the "Edexcel" quality teaching strategy—through activities, small educational projects, and short quizzes—on learning certain offensive and defensive concepts and skills in foil fencing among students. The researcher used the experimental method with two equivalent groups and a pre-post test design, as it suits the objectives and problem of the research. The study sample consisted of third-year students from the College of Physical Education at the University of Diyala for the academic year 2014–2015, totaling 168 students. A random sample was selected, with Group A designated as the experimental group and Group C as the control group, each comprising 20 students. The research tools included a knowledge test covering fencing concepts and a skill performance test for offensive and defensive movements using the foil. The data were analyzed using the SPSS statistical package. The findings led the researcher to the following conclusions: (1) Applying the Edexcel teaching quality strategy had a positive impact on improving the cognitive level and skill performance of certain offensive and defensive fencing concepts among students in the experimental group; and (2) the experimental group that applied the Edexcel strategy outperformed the control group in both knowledge and skill performance related to foil fencing.
