Abstract

Basketball requires players to exert maximum individual effort during high-level skill games, relying heavily on the mastery of basic skills and effective team coordination, especially when implementing tactical offensive or defensive strategies. Unlike other sports, basketball demands more from individual and team planning due to the complexity of its gameplay. This research focuses on the importance of self-control exercises—specifically mobile equilibrium training using a balancing wheelchair—as a means to enhance scoring performance, particularly in lay-up shots, which are among the most accurate forms of scoring in basketball. Given that high technical skill levels are essential for achieving game objectives and securing competitive results, it becomes the coach’s responsibility to elevate the team’s skill level. The researchers aimed to investigate whether mobile equilibrium exercises could effectively improve lay-up shooting performance. An experimental method was applied on a sample of 20 fourth-stage female students from the College of Education and Sports, divided randomly into experimental and control groups of 10 students each, ensuring homogeneity in age, height, and weight. Pre-tests were conducted for lay-up performance to establish a baseline. The experimental group underwent specific self-control training within basketball classes, consisting of 15-minute sessions twice a week over a month. SPSS was used to statistically analyze the results through paired and independent sample t-tests. The study concluded that self-control exercises had a significant positive effect on improving lay-up shooting performance, with noticeable development among participants in the experimental group. Accordingly, the researchers recommend incorporating self-control exercises into training programs to enhance skill performance in lay-up shooting.
