Abstract

The importance of this research lies in identifying the best methods for learning sports skills while considering the appropriate age for students to acquire and retain these skills, thereby saving time and effort for coaches in selecting team members. The researcher observed a significant issue: the low physical and skill level among students, which discourages their participation in sports teams. Furthermore, learning new motor skills becomes more challenging with age, especially for non-athletic university students, posing a problem for coaches in preparing competitive teams. This issue is worth studying, and the research sample included students from the Department of Computer Science at the University of Technology. Based on expert opinions and findings, the study concluded that learning and retaining sports skills is more effective and faster at ages 18–19, especially during the first university year. Therefore, the researcher recommends focusing on first-year students in universities, re-teaching fundamental skills such as basketball, and emphasizing physical education at this stage due to students’ higher receptiveness and better skill retention.
