Abstract

Abdul Hafiz Salameh (1998) indicated that the educational task is no longer limited to merely transferring information. The learner is now considered the central element in all stages of learning, taking on an active and dynamic role rather than being a passive recipient of information from the teacher. Participation in the learning process has become essential, as different learning methods significantly impact the acquisition of various sports skills, including swimming. This is especially important because swimming is practiced in an unfamiliar environment for most learners — the aquatic environment — and factors like fear can hinder the smooth acquisition of skills and affect learning outcomes for beginners. Therefore, it is necessary to teach swimming skills using methods that reduce fear and promote a sense of safety. To establish a strong foundation in swimming, it is crucial to diversify teaching methods and approaches, selecting those best suited to the learner’s level, environment, and nature. From this perspective, the importance of this research lies in designing a proposed educational program using the reciprocal teaching method, which places the learner at the center of the learning process. It also represents a serious scientific attempt to evaluate the effectiveness of reciprocal teaching in learning freestyle swimming, using it as a new instructional approach that has rarely been explored in this field.
