Abstract
Excess weight and obesity, or an increase in body fat beyond normal levels, represent a serious health issue. The persistent pressure caused by overweight can lead to postural deformities, including muscular imbalance, uneven fat distribution, and a loss of balance and agility. Such conditions often result in injuries, including flattening of the feet (pes planus) and lateral curvature of the spine (scoliosis). These physical imbalances, especially in young females, can significantly impair motor performance and increase the risk of chronic musculoskeletal problems. The physiological and hormonal makeup of females makes them more susceptible to weight gain and obesity, particularly during various life stages. If left unaddressed, this weight gain can negatively affect their ability to perform different physical skills. This research aims to determine the proportion of girls with excess weight and obesity among applicants to the College of Physical Education for Women, identify the associated postural deformities (such as scoliosis and flat feet), and examine the relationship between these deformities and the degree of weight gain. The researchers hypothesize that there is a statistically significant relationship between excess weight, obesity, and postural deformities.
