Abstract

This research incorporates one of the modern learning methods used in the field of badminton for young girls, aiming to develop their skill level. The problem addressed lies in the stagnation and lack of progress among beginner players, primarily due to the absence of modern training programs and a structured system to motivate coaches to adopt advanced, organized, and programmed techniques. The researchers designed an educational program using both fixed and variable training schedules to improve basic skills among a sample of second-grade students at Al-Karkh Secondary School during the academic year 2008/2009. The study was conducted on a group of 14 students from the Safiya Bint Abdul Muttalib School and applied the experimental method due to its suitability to the research objectives. Pre-tests were conducted to ensure equivalence between the fixed and variable groups, with support from subject matter experts and an experienced assistant team. The educational curriculum was developed based on the researcher’s expertise and consultations with 14 specialized experts. A preliminary instructional unit and exploratory study were implemented, and standardized tests—based on Dr. Louay Hussein Al-Bakr’s 2000 model—were used to assess basic skills. Results were analyzed to evaluate the program’s impact on three main skills, showing a significant and positive effect, particularly in open skills such as front and back court movements, with better results observed in the variable training group. No significant differences were found in closed skills like serving. The study emphasized the importance of mental, physical, and nutritional components in skill acquisition and concluded with recommendations for coaches to adopt modern training methods and the development of a standardized skill battery for badminton across various levels and age groups.
