Errors of Attacking Teams in Handball Near the Goal Area and Free Throws: Impact and Solutions
Abstract
In handball, while the team is in attack, it must plan to overcome the opponent using all possible offensive strategies and deceptive maneuvers. Losing the ball due to simple errors committed by players is an unhealthy situation that has negative effects on the outcome of the game.
The objective of this research is to identify the errors made by attacking teams near the throwing and free throw areas of the opposing team, understand the impact of these errors, and propose training solutions to address the causes of such errors.
The study employed a descriptive survey methodology, targeting five teams from the elite division in Qatar's handball league. The researcher concluded that the most common errors occurring near the goal area and free throw zones are:
- Entering the goal area, which leads to fouls.
- Holding the ball for more than three steps, resulting in a loss of possession.
- Pushing and holding opponents, leading to penalties.
The researcher recommended the necessity of training players to avoid errors that occur near the throwing and free-throw areas, especially during the attack phase. Additionally, it was suggested to implement the recommendations outlined in this study to reduce the occurrence of such errors.
