Abstract

With the increasing interest of countries in achieving more victories in championships due to their political significance, this has led to added pressure on coaches and players. As a result, the need for psychological and mental training programs became evident, to meet these demands and help players achieve better results under such pressure.

The aim of this study is to propose a practical training program to develop the self-confidence level of young tennis players and examine its effect on their accuracy of serving and performing backhand skills in tennis.

The hypotheses of the study were:

  1. There are no statistically significant differences in the level of self-confidence between the experimental and control groups.
  2. There are no statistically significant differences in the serving accuracy of the experimental and control groups.
  3. There are no statistically significant differences in the serving accuracy of the backhand skill between the experimental and control groups.

The sample of the study consisted of 14 young tennis players, chosen randomly. They were divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control group, with seven players in each group. After ensuring the sample's balance in the variables relevant to the study, pre-tests were applied to both groups. Following this, the training program was conducted between July 1, 2004, and December 29, 2004.
