Abstract

The research aims to identify the level of depression among fourth-year female students in the colleges and departments of Physical Education and Sports Sciences in Diyala, as well as to determine the differences in the level of depression between these students.

In light of these objectives, the researchers hypothesized that there would be statistically significant differences in the level of depression between the fourth-year female students in the colleges and departments of Physical Education and Sports Sciences in Diyala. The researchers sought to answer the following questions, which represent the problem of the study: What is the general prevalence of depression among fourth-year female students in the colleges and departments of Physical Education and Sports Sciences in Diyala? Are there differences in the level of depression among these students?

The researchers used the descriptive method with a comparative survey approach, as it suits the nature of the study. The study population included fourth-year female students in the colleges and departments of Physical Education and Sports Sciences in Diyala, totaling 63 students, representing three different colleges: the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at Diyala University, the Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the College of Basic Education at Diyala University, and the Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at Al-Rafidain College. The sample of the study consisted of 48 students, representing 76.19% of the population, selected randomly with 16 students from each college.

The main conclusions of the study included: there is a varying level of depression among fourth-year female students in the colleges and departments of Physical Education and Sports Sciences in Diyala. The study also revealed variations in the level of depression between these students, with social interaction being one of the most important factors that reduces the level of depression, according to the results of the current study.
